Brugge, Belgium

All too quickly we were soon on to our final european city destination before the journey back across the UK to home. However, we have been to Brugge before and really enjoyed our time there so we decided it seemed a good place to spend our last couple of nights.

The journey had been grey and miserable and therefore, we were pleased to find our final campsite easily and find that it was only a stones throw from the middle of the city. We found our spot, and then, during a break in the drizzle, we wandered out from the site to find a supermarket for the final few things we needed for the next couple of days.

We then made a plan to cycle in to Brugge the following morning. Sadly we awoke to the rain falling like stair rods, then brief occasions where the sun had a chance to appear. So we had an early lunch and by the time we finished, it looked like the rain may hold off for a couple of hours. So we hopped on the bikes, found the cycle route in and quickyl found ourself on the edge of the centre of the city. It was really busy with a multinational colletion of tourists. We were only on the centre for about an hour, enjoying a coffee and waffle during our stop (well, it would be rude not to!)

So once our patience for other tourists ran out, we plotted out route back to the site. On our way, we decided that we wanted to extend the route so followed a couple of cycle paths (and they were numerous) through forests, parks, residential areas and next to the canals. It was a really nice ride. I definitely want to explore more of these on another visit, rather than the city.

That evening we had the chance to meet members of the South Coast VW Club (I hope I have got that right) - they were all so nice, funny and friendly. It started because we were admiring the variety of VW Transporters that were on show, they were all smart. Once we got talking about all things VW's and our old vans, a few of the group wanted to see the motorhome. I think they liked our van as much as I like theirs! there were a few offers from the ladies to come with us too! a couple of them even suggested that they could share... quickly followed by the flush of embarassment as it came out a little different than she had imagined. Brilliant.

I suggested that as we were on the way home, it seemed a shame to cut their holiday short.

Sadly, the next morning was the final haul back home, but we have had the chance to meet so many nice people, beautiful places and great experiences. We cannot wait to get out on the road again... thank goodness we are only home for 13 days.
