Drøbak, Norway

As we were continuing to travel north towards Oslo, we decided that we would stop just short of the capital to rest overnight. Sarah searched for a pleasant place to camp for free and we ended up in a lovely little spot next to the Marina. Because of the day we were there, the overnight parking was free, and best of all, really quiet.

Our camping spot next to the fjord, Drobak, Norway

Once we had picked our spot at the end of the row of 4 motorhomes we quickly went for a walk around to explore the village. Drobak has a lovely feel and warm friendly people, everyone saying or waiving hello as we walked on past. On our first wander we walked through the centre of the town, admiring the small shops and restaurants, and on towards the park that nestled next to the sea. From there we headed back towards our chosen camping spot. On our way back along the coastline, we came across a family and another group of friends jumping in and swimming in the fjord. They were jumping and diving from over 5m above the water - we thought that they were all very brave. The water was inky black due to how quickly the sea bed fell away from the coast.

With the sun setting we decided to break our usual habit of dinner and get a pizza from a nice little spot in the town. It looked busy and had smelled great when we had passed earlier in the day. So as we sat there enjoying the sunset, pizza and a cold beer, we smiled from ear to ear at such a great find.

View from Drobak, Norway

After dinner we had another quick walk and spotted a large ferry carrying people towards Oslo. It seemed far to big to be in such a channel, but the other people that were around didn't even give it a second glance. With the ship passing us by we realised how close we were to Oslo so decided on an early start to refill our fuel supplies (both diesel and LPG for the cooking and fridge).

We awoke to the same pretty and quiet vista that we had enjoyed the night before.  We were a little sad to be leaving so soon, but we knew that the road was calling again and that we would find many more places like this to explore.

The journey continues.
