Molde, Norway

Having left Åndalsnes, we followed route 64 around the edge of Romsdalsfjorden and on towards the ferry at Åfarnes for the short ferry crossing. Once back on land we followed the road to Molde via the incredibly deep tunnel that joined Bolsøya to Molde.

Once in the town, we drove around to find somewhere to park so that we could get out and walk around and get a feel of the place. We were more than ready for some fresh air and excited to expplore our new location. We found a lovely parking spot overlooking the water and picked a direction and walked along the shoreline. The place had a lovely feel about it. We walked along to the Aker Stadium which was really smart. We paused breifly to see the ladies team training on the pitch behind closed doors. All of the coastal walk was well maintained. Once we had tracked back past our motorhome we headed a short distance the other way and quickly stumbled across the ferry terminal (which we needed for the next part of our journey).

Sarah on top of the mound in the park overlooking the water, Molde, Norway

We were enjoying sitting in the sunshine while we were selecting a suitable to place to camp for the night. Park4nite again presented us with an outstanding option although difficult to navigate up a long gravel track. It was so worth the ride.

When we arrived at the top we spotted a few campers spread throughout the car parks next to a lovely looking restaurant. We searched around and eventually found a spot next to a German couple that afforded us views down across Molde and the seas beneath us. It was an epic view. On our brief wander around the peak we came across information saying that, on a clear day, you could see 222 mountain peaks from our camping spot! We were lucky enough to have a stunning, blue skies, day but the photos do no justice to the epic scenery we were surrounded by.

Varden Panorama View, Molde, Norway

As it was starting to get late we opted to cook dinner outside while admiring the view. It was perfect! Once darkness fell, we tucked ourselves back in to our van and had a wonderfully peaceful nights sleep atop the mountain. The morning brough us more sunshine, but the realisation that we were going to leave this firm favourite stopover behind us.

Sarah was keen that I got out to see some of the scenery before we left Molde so told me to take the opportunity to go out on my bike. I had taken my XC mountain bike and therefore, was well equipped to enjoy some of the many freeride trails that intersected the roads and tracks all over the side of the mountain. It was exciting, and new, and I quite enjoyed not knowing where I was going... I just knew that I was heading downhill towards the port to meet up with Sarah and the van in a couple of hours time. When I arrived, the smile on my face told the story of how good the trails had been. I had a blast!

Once the bike was re-attached to the van it was time to get on the move again, and yet another ferry.
