Split and Lokva Rogoznica, Croatia

Another stormy one :-)

So having escaped Zadar and enjoyed Trogir, it was time to get on to Split. Sadly, when we arrived, it was a similar feeling to Zadar... all concrete, a bit run down and not very attractive at all. We drove right through to the ferry terminal and when it looked like it was not going to get any better, we headed back out and on to Route 6 to continue down the coast.

Having travelled further south, we continued on until we became tired from the travel and searched for sites. We found one that said it was a beach/sea side camp site just outside Omis, Croatia. The facilities looked good, so we decided to go and have a look for ourselves.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady who explained that they were not very busy (the main season was not due to start for another few weeks, so we could pick any spot we liked. As the view was stunning, we decided that it would be a good place to rest for the night. Little did we know what was in store for our stay (no spoilers, but no-one was injured - including Sarah).

Sadly, it would seem that Zeus had other plans for our peaceful and scenic stay. Gradually during the evening we became aware that the wind was picking up and that some gusts were definitely storm force.

As we decided to turn in for the night, the wind continued to strengthen and some of the gusts seemed more like hurricane than storm force. This continued to worsen until 2:30am when the motorhome was rocking so violently that things were starting to fall over in the cupboards. At this point, we decided to find an alternative spot to shelter from the Adriatic winds.

Once set in our new spot we finally managed to get a couple of hours sleep. However, as we had such a rough night we decided that it would be wise to stay another night plus, it looked like there were pathways leading along the edge of the coast that needed exploring.

On our walk we came across a derelict building and a near deserted tiny harbour. This proved to be an excellent opportunity to take a few 'arty' shots around the rocks and beachline. I could have spent hours here, but we knew there was more to be explored, so we continued along the coast. It looked almost completely desolate and forgotten. It was sad considering how stunning that piece of the coastline was. I just hope that more people would visit once their tourist season really kicked off. If not, it is definately little explored delight.

After a more restful second night, we packed up and got back on the road again, this time with a clear target to reach Dubrovnik before nightfall.
