Troyes, France

Once we had packed up and left our overnight stopover at Marcoing, France, we headed on towards Troyes, France. We had no real plan, but as it was close, felt that it was worth investigating, even if only for lunch and to stretch our legs.

It did not disappoint.

Using Camp4Night we found that we could park the motorhome next to an event location, called The Cube, with big spaces and easy walking distance from the centre of the old town. The only restriction that we read about was that we were not permitted to stay overnight, which seemed reasonable, although it was right opposite the Police station, so felt very safe.

As we followed our directions to the old town we passed a delighful Boulangerie, so we had to stop and buy a traditional baguette for lunch. Having devoured this we headed on in to the city and spent a couple of hours wandering the old streets and admiring the architecture, art, street sculptures and people milling around.

It had a lovely feel to it.

The squares and narrow streets were lined with cafes, restaurants and bars that were all busy with friends enjoying the warm sunshine, good looking wine and fabulous smelling food

Most of the old town buildings appear tudor in style as there was so much wood, plus many of them were leaning and occasionally leaning against one another. Many were looking desparately in need of saving so we were please to see that there is a project to restore many of the building to their former glory. The work completed so far was very impressive.

This place should be a stop for anyone travelling through this area with time on their hands.
