Velje, Denmark

We left Netherlands behind us the previous day and had a quick stop in a campsite overnight in order to service the motorhome, other than it being quite a pretty site around a man-made lake it was somewhat unremarkable… as a result, we were up and out early and on the road towards Norway.

We had been warned about the traffic through Hamburg, but as we used Google to predict the least busy period, we reasonably sailed through the city and the lengthy road works. But all-in-all a smooth transition to the north side of the river past the enormous container ships - I’m sure that some were bigger than some towns I’ve been to!

As we were making good progress and the weather was gloomy, we decided to continue heading north in to Denmark and when we started to feel that it was time to stop, Sarah found a lovely freedom camping spot just outside Velje, opposite a little park and next to an ice-cream parlour manned by a smiley and friendly Danish girl.

First we had a wander around the park, then and ice-cream and then decided to jump on the bikes to see what Velje had to offer.

To say that it is developing would probably be the nicest way to put it. There were large swathes of construction going on around the water’s edge, but what was already there seemed very nice, and quite upmarket. There were not many people around as we cycled about the place, and, as a result, it felt a little deserted.

With the weather reasonably unchanged when we awoke, we did our 3 minute re-shuffle to get everything stowed and soon enough we were back on the road.
